SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is hoping to alleviate the plight facing Malaysians who obtained their dentistry degrees from seven universities in Taiwan.
Presently they are required to have at least two years’ work experience before they can be considered to be registered as dental surgeons in the country.
At the party’s Dudong branch triennial general meeting cum election of new-office bearers for the term 2022-2024, the delegates said this was unfair.
“This is unnecessary for dental degree graduates from other universities so we will appeal to the Ministry of Health to scrap this condition,” said Wong Ching Yong who was unanimously re-elected as branch chairman.
This was among six motions adopted at the TGM held in its premises in Jalan Aman here today.
According to Wong the branch would also set up a special task force to assist Sarawakian teacherscome back and teach in their home state.
He said the branch would also set up a special task force to further assist stateless people and special task force to assist contract medical staff secure permanent posts.
Besides, he said they would also establish the branch’s junior youth section for those aged 18 to 28, and a senior citizen section.
In his address, Wong said 2021 was a difficult year for SUPP Dudong branch.
“We lost contesting the Dudong seat in the last state election at the very last minute. We are all sad and many lost sleep.
” I understand all these difficulties,” he told the members at the general meeting.
However, Wong who is also the deputy chairman of Sibu Rural Distict Council said a good turnout of members for the general meeting showed they would rise again and continue to serve the people to their best of abilities.
He also called upon members to be ever ready for the 15th general election.
