SIBU: Residents of Bawang Assan are urged to support the current Sarawak government to ensure a better future.
During a meet-the-people function at Rh Dennis Assan, Bawang Assan here on Monday (Dec 7), Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew has advised the people to support the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.
He said the main responsibility of leaders is to serve the people and not their political masters while stressing that the welfare of the people is paramount.
He said it is unfortunate that Bawang Assan assemblyman (Adun) has left the government to become an opposition Adun when a lot of development is still being needed on the ground.
At the function, Lau handed out Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to 10 longhouses of Bawang Assan, Bukit Besai and Bekakap.
Political secretary to the chief minister Romeo Christopher Tegong, who was also at the event, said leaders should work for the people and not the other way round
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan branch chairman added that people in the rural community need to support the current government if they want to see development in the area.
Political secretary to the chief minister Daniel Bujal and councillors of Sibu Rural District Council also attended the function.
