MIRI: Ongoing development relies heavily on the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government leading the state.

Hence it is crucial that the people continue lending their support to the GPS government, said Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Development Datuk Rosey Yunus.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Batu Niah Buddhist Society Building, Rosey highlighted the significance of GPS in driving development across Sarawak.

She stated that only the GPS government, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, could continue bringing progress to the region.

“I urge all of you to support the GPS government. Without their leadership, all development will come to a halt. It’s crucial that the GPS government remains in power so we can ensure the continued growth of Sarawak,” she said.

Rosey expressed concerns over the potential stagnation of progress if the government were to change.

She credited the GPS government for the significant transformations in Batu Niah, particularly in providing much-needed facilities for the people.

“Under the GPS government, Batu Niah has seen tremendous growth. Various facilities have been built for the benefit of the community,” she added.

Rosey also praised Sarawak’s multi-religious and multi-cultural society, noting that the state’s harmony and unity are key strengths.

She emphasised that Sarawak is the only state in Malaysia to have the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), a unique body established to ensure the fair treatment of all religious groups.

“Sarawak is fortunate to have Unifor. This is our strength and something we should be proud of. Despite our diversity, we can work together to maintain peace and harmony, making Sarawak a model of unity,” she said.

She reiterated that the efforts of today are aimed at securing a better future for the next generation, urging the community to continue fostering peace and cooperation.

“The groundbreaking of the Batu Niah Buddhist Society Building today symbolises another milestone for our community. It will stand as a lasting icon of unity and progress for Batu Niah,” Rosey added.

In her speech, she also acknowledged the need for improved infrastructure in Batu Niah.

She revealed that there is currently only one exit route, which becomes heavily congested during events.

“We have submitted a proposal for an additional exit route to ease traffic congestion during busy periods,” she said, adding that the proposal is being considered to improve the area’s accessibility.

Also present at the event was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
