MIRI: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni has called on the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) grassroots members to support the coalition to ensure its victory in this next election.
Grassroots support was vital for GPS to win the election, he said when met at the breaking of fast with members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Piasau and Senadin branches on Saturday.
He added GPS component parties should stick together and support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s struggle to fight on issues such as the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
PBB, Lukanisman added, had been lauded as “the backbone” of GPS. Hence, it must be ever ready for the next election to ensure the party’s victory.
The MP also lauded the federal government’s suggestion to reinstate the Parliamentary Services Act 1963 in July.
The Act provided for the Parliament of Malaysia to conduct its own administration, staffing and financing, However, it was repealed in 1992 after the then Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat (lower house of Parliament), Zahir Ismail unilaterally had it removed from the books.
“It is a good effort made by the federal government as it can restore the dignity of the Parliament,” Lukanisaman said.
Also present at the breaking of fast were PBB Piasau chairman Councillior Sardon Zainal and 100 members from both Piasau and Senadin (PBB) branches.
The event was held at Miri Coco Cabana.
