SRI AMAN: The “rakyat” (people) must show their respect and support for the leaders who are fighting for the rights of Sarawak.
Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang (pic) told the Sri Aman community to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) so that they could regain Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“GPS is doing the right thing. It is continuing what had been laid down by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem. Therefore, the people should respect that,” he said during the GPS Flag Rally at the Sri Aman Civic Centre yesterday.
Mong added that GPS’ fight had just started and he believed that if all its members stayed united, they would be able to bring Sarawak to greater heights.
“Support the leaders who will fight for us. If the people feel that they are off the track, they have to tell them,”he said.
On the flag rally, he lauded the GPS Youth and Women wings for undertaking the long journey from the northern to the southern regions of Sarawak to promote GPS.
“It is a tiring journey but they have the heart to go around to meet you all. That is the kind of leadership you want to see and support,” stressed Mong.
“GPS is a party that upholds the spirit of ‘Sarawak for Sarawakians’ and put ‘Sarawak First’. We must make sure that it will continue to be the government of the day after the state election.”
Meanwhile, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu urged the people to remember GPS’ most important mission which was to safeguard the state’s rights.
“We haven’t and will not lose in the fight to reclaim our rights. If we don’t fight now, then when? The future generations will blame and not forgive us.”
Also present at the event were Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat, Community Well-being Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Brodie. After Sri Aman, the convoy headed to Balai Ringin, Serian and spent the night in Kuching.
Today, they would be heading to Siburan, Bau, Lundu and Batu Kawa.
