KUCHING: Sarawakians have been told that they are fortunate to have a capable state government that has acted immediately to minimise the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi were referring to the Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package which was announced last Monday.
Nanta said the initiatives should be supported by the people as the government is seriously handling the pandemic and related problems.
“It shows that our chief minister and his Cabinet ministers are working hard to help the people by introducing the special aid,” he said, adding that he was pleased to have received the news about the aid package.
Nanta emphasised that the aid would help people who are badly affected by the movement control order (MCO) and those who are working as frontliners in the fight against the pandemic.
He added that besides the special aid, the state government’s quick actions that mitigate the spread of Covid-19 should be lauded as well.
“We were the first to act. Sarawak took fast actions to restrict tourists coming from infected countries. If not, there would have been many more cases. This is why our people need to be aware of updates from the state government,” he said.
“Another good thing is that we have a very active State Disaster Management Committee chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.”
