SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) encourages the participation of young people in the party to continue with its leadership.
The party president, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is also Minister of Local Government and Housing said that it was an important step to further strengthen SUPP’s struggles as the oldest party in the state.
According to him, the party needs more young people because the party’s survival depends on them.
“There are many platforms and opportunities for young people and with the participation of young members, we can continue to fight for Sarawak,” he said while officiating at the party’s 58th anniversary celebration organised by five SUPP branches here namely, Pelawan, Bawang Assan, Bukit Assek, Nangka and Dudong held at the Sibu Civic Centre here on Friday night.
About 1,000 SUPP members were present at the event.
Dr Sim also hoped that the people would stand firm behind SUPP so that the party can grow stronger and has many elected representatives.
He called on the multi-racial society in the state, particularly in Sibu to translate the spirit of unity in their support to the party to wrest back Sibu and Lanang parliamentary seats in the coming general election.
“I also hope that BN component parties to continue to cooperate with each other and be united to achieve a similar goal,” he said.
Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Michael Tiang were among those present.
