KUCHING: Besides praying at Masjid Darul Hana in Petra Jaya here, Muslims can also pray at the RM4.3 million Surau Darul Hana in future.
According to Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, work on the surau began earlier this month.
When completed, it would be able to accommodate 460 worshippers at any one time.
“Built on two acres of land, Surau Darul Hana will also be equipped with facilities such as prayer halls, offices, toilets and a site for Qurban rituals. It will also have an attractive landscape.
“This surau will have Islamic art designs and it will definitely be the focus of Muslims living in the Darul Hana area.
“With this new facility, there will be another place for the Muslims to hold religious activities,” he said when met at an event at the Surau Darul Hana construction site here on Monday.
Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), said apart from the surau and Masjid Darul Hana, the Darul Hana Development area would also have an Islamic park.
Surau Darul Hana is expected to be ready by the end of next year.
Also present at the Surau Darul Hana construction site were Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) general manager Monalisa Zaidel and Darul Hana Development special officer Mohd Yakup Kari.
