MUKAH: The Muslims of Kampung Tutus Ulu here have every reason to smile following the handing over of the surau to the village yesterday.
Witnessing the handover was Balingian state assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi.
On hand to receive the mock key from Mukah Division Public Works Department Assistant Architect Cassidy Suing was the village chief Ketua Kampung Laily Basri.
Also present at the simple handing over ceremony held at the compound of the surau were Mukah District Officer Shafrie Saili and the contractor’srepresentatives.
The surau is able to accommodate 200 people at one time and is considered a new year gift to the 400 residents there.
Costing RM469,974 and implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), the house of worship was completed on May 22 last year.
The client of the project was Kampung Tutus Ulu JKKK (Village Development and Security Committee). Its implementing agency was JKR Mukah while the contractor was Richarter Sdn Bhd.
Besides attending to the handover of the surau, Yakub and delegation also visited other RTP projects in the area, namely, the upgrading of road heading to the parking lots of Kpg Tabo Community Hall, the upgrading of Kpg Teh Multi-purpose Hall and upgrading of Jalan Litong/Tanjung Mukah.
