MIRI: A man, who was arrested for drug-related offences, escaped police custody while waiting to be taken to a temporary lock-up at the Miri Court complex here today.

His hands were cuffed when the incident occurred.

It was learnt that before the incident, 25-year-old Boniface Lagil of Bandar Baru Permyjaya, had just arrived at the court complex around 8.20am with eight other accused, escorted by two policemen.

The accused were brought from Miri Central Police Station (CPS) to the court complex in a police truck that morning prior to the incident.

Police have launched a manhunt for the accused.

Meanwhile, Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, when contacted, has confirmed the incident.

Those who have any information on the accused’s whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest police station or CPS at 085-433222.
