Suspect in the viral MJC assault nabbed

PADAWAN: Police have arrested a local man who allegedly threatened and assaulted another man at MJC, Batu Kawa over the weekend.

Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, when contacted, confirmed that the arrest was made around 1.15 pm this afternoon (Aug 27).

“The 36-year-old suspect was picked up at the Taman Sri Jaya RPR, Matang.

“He will be remanded to facilitate investigations,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 506/323 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday (Aug 24), went viral after two video clips were uploaded on Facebook on Sunday (Aug 25).

In the first video, lasting about 28 seconds, the suspect is seen threatening the victim and applying a right arm lock before pushing him.

The second clip, about five seconds long, shows the suspect striking the victim in the face while he was on the floor.

It was understood that the incident stemmed from a dispute over renovation work at one of the shops.

The victim, who was reported to have undergone surgery on his left arm early this month, sustained injuries to his left eye, both arms, left leg and right shoulder.
