MIRI: A 26-year-old man has been remanded for 10 days following his arrest, along with the seizure of 900 packs of contraband cigarettes valued at RM4,395.
The arrest was made during a raid conducted by a team from the Miri IPD Criminal Investigation Division on Sept 30 at 3.30 pm at Jalan North Yu Seng, here.
A foreign national, the suspect was picked up for possessing various types of cigarettes with unpaid customs duties.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the arrest, which was part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations aimed at curbing smuggling activities.
