KUCHING: A man’s attempt to run away from the police led to the arrest of the main suspect in a recent carjacking case behind a supermarket at Jalan Batu Kawa here.
Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong revealed that the suspect, 45, was arrested at 6.10pm on Monday (March 22) at Batu Kawa New Township.
“Prior to the arrest, the team approached the suspect for an inspection but he ran away. The team apprehended him after a 200-meter chase,” he said.
During interrogation, the suspect who had a past record for theft, admitted that he was at the car park to steal vehicles.
Lim stressed that efforts to locate the suspect’s accomplice and the stolen items are in full swing.
The suspect will be remanded until Thursday (Mar 25) to facilitate police investigations.
