MARUDI: A security guard of a logging company was arrested by a police team for having in his possession 39.45gm of syabu worth RM9,000 for distribution in the logging area of Long Lama.
The suspect distributed the drug (syabu) in straw tubes weighing 0.1 gram priced at RM50 each, 0.5g (RM150) and 1.0g (RM300).
He is believed to obtain the drug supply from Miri. He was also found positive for methamphetamine.
The 49-year-old suspect was detained in an unnumbered quarters at a logging camp in Long Lama around 2.00pm, yesterday.
The suspect was arrested in a special operation led by ASP Jong Lak Kho from the State Criminal Investigation Department of IPK Sarawak and charged under Section 39A (2) and Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
The suspect has been actively involved in the matter since January last year.
Marudi district police chief, DSP Gabriel Risut disclosed that in the operation, police seized 21 transparent plastic packs containing two crystal lumps weighing 34.15gm which is suspected to be ‘syabu’ was found in the suspect’s bedroom and two transparent plastic packets and 16 straw tubes each containing two crystalline lumps suspected to be ‘syabu’ weighing 5.30gm were also found in a pick-up truck.
Previous records showed that the suspect had been charged under Section 304A of the Penal Code where he was jailed for six and a half year for homicide.
which carries a six-year and six-month imprisonment for killing without intention.
The suspect is being detained in the lock-up of Miri Central Police Station and will be taken to Marudi for further investigation.
