BAU: A man was arrested for possessing 5.1g of syabu along Jalan Blacksmith here on Friday.
District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the 25-year-old was detained after police spotted him acting suspiciously while riding a motorcycle at around 11.30pm.
“During a body check, the unemployed man took out a brown bag from his pocket, which contained eight translucent plastic packages. The packages contain crystalline substances believed to be syabu weighing 5.1g with an estimated street value of RM600,” he said in a statement.
Poge added that the suspect who had a previous criminal record was tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.
The suspect is being remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 39A (1) Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 15(1) of the same Act. Section 39 (a)(1) carries a jail term of two to five years and whipping upon conviction.
Under Section 15(1), an offender faces up to RM5,000 fine and jail term not more than two years as well as to undergo supervision of between two to three years.
