KUCHING: The third edition of the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 3.0) commenced on Wednesday (Sept 6) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), attracting more than 1,000 delegates representing government agencies, corporations, domestic and international private companies.
Organised by Sarawak Energy with support from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication and the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, SAREF 3.0 serves as a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and global energy and sustainability experts to collaborate in shaping a sustainable energy future.
Themed ‘Regional Net Zero and Sustainable Communities’, the forum will delve into regional net-zero initiatives and explore green energy development and solutions.
The event was inaugurated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and featured a special address by Dame Christiana Figueres, former United Nations (UN) climate chief and key architect of the Paris Agreement.
Additionally, a panel session titled ‘A Shared Energy Future – Partnership and Collaboration’ was moderated by Sharanjit Leyl from NBCUniversal Catalyst.
The panel included esteemed participants such as Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, Group CEO of Sarawak Energy Berhad; Dr Nuki Agya Utama, executive director of Asean Centre for Energy; and Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, president and Group CEO of Petronas.
Sarawak Energy initiated the inaugural SAREF in 2019, marking the start of a decade-long thought leadership campaign aimed at stimulating discussions about renewable energy and actionable solutions in Southeast Asia, with a dedicated focus on achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
