Angelique features a diverse collection of uniquely designed apparel, accessories, and home products, all crafted sustainably to embody an easygoing, chic, casual, and bohemian luxe vibe. Recently, the brand held an intimate fashion show where six models showcased its latest resort wear.
Stylish resort wear with a bohemian touch
Resort wear is all about creating a relaxed, stylish, and comfortable look that is perfect for a laid-back day by the pool or exploring new destinations. In a tropical climate like Malaysia, where it is mostly sunny, having the right clothes can make all the difference.
Typically made of lightweight, breathable materials such as linen, cotton, or other eco-friendly fabrics, resort wear is ideal for warm weather, keeping you cool and comfortable all day long.
In fact, for afternoon teas in Malaysia, many ladies prefer resort wear, particularly when the events are held outdoors.
A resort wear collection typically includes sundresses, flowy skirts, shorts, cropped or loose pants, and tops, along with accessories like hats, sunglasses, and sandals.
Recently, a fashion show showcasing Angelique resort wear was held at the Collabstore in Shoppes at Four Seasons Place, Kuala Lumpur.
Angelique is a small Malaysian brand practicing sustainable slow fashion, with each piece handmade by its network of skilled artisans. Based in Penang, it is also available at other pop-up stores, such as Collabstore in Kuala Lumpur.
The brand was founded by Malaysian designer Pei Ling, who has had a strong passion for arts and fashion since a young age.
Inspired by her family, she started Angelique, which is the name of both her daughter and her muse. Determined to bring forth a timeless style for free-spirited women, Angelique offers a range of uniquely designed apparel, accessories, and home products, all produced sustainably, each piece embodying an easygoing, chic, casual, and bohemian luxe vibe.
At the intimate show, attended by Pei Ling’s clients, six models showcased her latest resort wear. An eye-catching piece was a cotton dress with the words “OUT OF OFFICE” sewn onto it. A hijab model wore it with leggings and a top, but it can also be worn as a standalone dress.
Guess who was won over by the words? Yours truly — the writer — became her client that afternoon!
Another attractive piece is the Applique ShortLong Top/Jacket. It features a hand-cut and hand-stitched pattern sewn onto another piece of cotton fabric.
Apparently, it is the best seller now.
Following the showcase of her Resort/Fall 24’ collection, Pei Ling said, “This collection is inspired by the blue sky and the turquoise sea in Greece, as well as the fall season with its brown-hued fallen leaves in Paris. The olive-green colour, which ties together some of the fashion pieces, reminds me of the olive orchards in Italy and Spain.”
For the fabrics in her latest collection, different textures of cotton and soft linen were used.
Then there are her boho-chic accessories that complement the fashion pieces. Bags in interesting shapes and forms, along with earrings and necklaces, are crafted by artisans.
The “Saloma bag” seen in the fashion show is the brand’s signature piece. Fully handmade using natural materials, the body is made of plant fibre (palm), with recycled wood for the handles.
If you are ever in Penang, you can visit her You Le Yuen boutique hotel at No. 7 Love Lane, where her fashion pieces are displayed on the ground floor.
