KUCHING: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a critical component that will help to put into perspective the recently launched Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“The goals will guide the local authorities to focus on areas of critical concern that need to be prioritised, especially the post Covid-19 action plans,” he said.

Dr Sim said this in his opening remarks at the Virtual Roundtable on Sustainable Development Goals for Sarawak Local Authorities on Tuesday (Sept 21), organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing in partnership with Sarawak Development Institute (SDI).

“This journey we are about to embark on will need everyone to cooperate through meaningful partnerships with communities, civil societies and the private sector.

“This is a shared responsibility we must chart out together so that no one is left behind. No Sarawakian is left out from enjoying the prosperity and success of our labour,” he said.

Dr Sim said the ministry would make it a point to follow through with the key performance indicators (KPIs) set by the local authorities in their SDG 2030 focus so as to ensure that they receive the support needed.

He added that the Virtual Roundtable on Sustainable Development Goals for Sarawak Local Authorities came at a very appropriate time as it was a follow up to the United Nation’s call to adopt the SDGs; Malaysia was one of the 193 signatory countries to commit to its implementation until 2030.

“I also wish to extend my thanks to the expert speakers who will be guiding our Sarawak local authorities throughout this SDG 2030 webinar,” he said.
