KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Department has refuted reports by Global Forest Watch of a significant loss of forest cover in the state.
In a press release, the department stated that the forest in Sarawak is being well-managed for the benefit of socio-economic development and environmental sustainability.
A recent report by the National Audit Department confirms that forest coverage in the state stands at 61.4% of its total land area.
The department also highlighted initiatives to preserve and rehabilitate deforested areas and reduce the dependence on timber resources.
The use of forest technology and geospatial analysis will aid in forest conservation and management.
The department affirms its commitment to maintaining forest coverage and environmental sustainability in Sarawak.
