KUCHING: The vision is to see a landscape filled with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, hydrogen refueling points, and zero-emission vehicles on the road.

And the government, industry, and community have been encouraged to work together to realise this vision.

In making the call, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said it will secure a future where the children breathe cleaner air, the cities are less congested and the economy thrives on green innovation.

“This is not just a distant dream; it is a vision that we are actively working towards every day.

“To realise this vision, we must continue to work together-government, industry, and citizens alike. We must embrace change, invest in new technologies, and commit to the principles of sustainability.

“Our journey towards sustainable mobility is a shared responsibility, and together, we can make Sarawak and Malaysia a beacon of sustainability in Southeast Asia,” he said.

He said this in his speech read by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap during the launching of the EV Car Carnival at GWM Yuleehong here on Saturday.

He said the carnival is more than just an event as it served as a platform for increasing public awareness about the benefits of EVs.

“By showcasing the latest in EV technology and offering interactive experiences, you are helping to educate the public about the importance of transitioning to electric vehicles.

“Your work today will resonate far beyond this event, as it helps to shift public perception and encourage the adoption of greener transportation options,” he added.

The carnival was organised by a group of dedicated Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB) students.

The event highlights include an EV model-building competition where young participants use their creativity to build EV models using recycled material.
