KUCHING: The Sarawak taekwondo team clinched two more medals — silver and a bronze — on Monday (Aug 19), during the fourth day of the taekwondo competition at the 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA).

Maple Law Tsi Eun was the sole state representative to make it to the final in the women’s bantam weight (49-53kg) category.

The agility of Perlis athlete, Norumar Mohd Firdaus, was difficult to match as she won convincingly in straight sets with a score of 7-3, 3-1, leaving Law to settle for the silver medal.

Her journey for the championship title began when she qualified for the quarter-finals against Terengganu representative, Nur Adlin Ironia.

Although she lost 4-9 in the first round, Law’s spirit remained unbroken, and she bounced back in the second round with a 12-9 victory, continuing her winning streak with a 9-7 result.

She then faced the Federal Territories’ own Lydya Dyana in the semifinals.

It was a fierce battle, but Law managed to win in straight sets with scores of 6-6, 6-5.

He faced Terengganu’s Fu Chen Put Thai who won the first set 14-6.

Allexandre’s attempt to make a comeback in the third set was unsuccessful with a 5-4 result, even though he won the second set 5-4.

He had earlier defeated Selangor’s Lokadevan in three sets with scores of 8-6, 17-18, 14-9 in the quarterfinals.
