KUCHING: Sarawak boxers are eyeing the National Youth Boxing Championship title and have set themselves a target of at least six golds.

Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said that six gold medals are the minimum target for his boxers.

The tournament is hosted by Sarawak from March 7 to 11.

“I am confident and very sure that we will be able to reach that target if not more,” he told reporters after officiating at the championship at Kubah Ria, here last night.

Meanwhile, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, who represented Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, said he was sure the tournament would be the best platform for the young boxers to show off their talent.

“This championship is the best place to nurture young talents for Sarawak in preparation for Sukma 2024 and other national tournaments, or even get selected to the national squad.

“This is the time for you to seize your chance and show your talent, who knows you will be selected to the national squad.

“I would also like to remind the young boxers here that this is not a place (tournament) for you to pick a fight with someone but a place for you to show your talent and display the spirit of sportsmanship,” Miro added.

Apart from Sarawak, the other participating teams are Johor, Perlis, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Terengganu and Selangor.
