MUKAH: Sarawak squad hopes of entering the Malaysia Maksak futsal championship
semifinals were crushed here when they lost out to their Borneo neighbours Sabah 2-1 through a penalty shootout.
According to assistant coach Nizam Mahmud, the players have done their best and accepted the loss but again failed to break the quarterfinal jinx.
“We were so close but unfortunately the penalty did not favour our side,” he said.
In the group stage, Sarawak emerged runners-up following two wins and a loss.
Sarawak beat Negeri Sembilan 3-0 and Labuan 2-0 before they lost to Selangor 1-3 who emerged as the eventual champions, beating Kuala Lumpur in the final.
