KUCHING: The Sarawak sepak takraw team for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XX Kuala Lumpur 2022 is aiming to bring home silverware for the state after months of intense training, says its head coach Fadlanshah Barahim.
He said his team is working hard to qualify for the finals of the women’s team for the doubles category, while trying to qualify for the semi-finals of the doubles category for the men’s team.
“That is our target for SUKMA XX Kuala Lumpur 2022.
“It is a challenging task for the players, but I have confidence in them,” he said when contacted today (Sept 7).
Fadlanshah, who took over as the head coach last November, expressed confidence that his team is well prepared for the Games.
He explained that the men’s regu category was voted to be in Group D against Perak and Melaka.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak men’s doubles category is in Group B with Johor and Perlis.
As for the men’s team category, Sarawak is in Group C with Kelantan, Terengganu and Sabah.
“For the women’s doubles category, Sarawak was voted to be in Group A with Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and the Federal Territories.
“Sarawak was also voted to be in Group B in the women’s team category with Perak, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor and Johor,” he added.
The men’s team category sepak takraw event will start on September 14.
Sarawak will face Melaka for the first match of Group D.
