MIRI: The Sarawak-Singapore Business Networking Forum here from Sept 19 to 23 promises to enhance economic and trade cooperation between Miri and Singapore significantly.
The event will be held at the Pullman Hotel Miri and is expected to attract around 200 Singaporean delegates from various business sectors.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang expressed his excitement and anticipation for the event.
“This exchange marks a significant milestone in the economic and trade cooperation between Miri and Singapore. It is an important opportunity to drive the economic development of Miri and the entire Sarawak region,” he told a press conference last night (June 18) at the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) conference room,
Miri’s commitment to be a ‘Green, Smart and Most Liveable International Resort City’ will be a central theme of the forum. The city is actively promoting various green and smart city initiatives, including the Kenyalang Smart City project which will beging soon.
The project integrates education, healthcare, enterprises, residential areas, recreation, solar power generation, and green ecology. The forum will provide a platform to showcase these achievements and further enhance Miri’s international reputation.
Yii highlighted the forum’s potential to attract Singaporean enterprises to Miri, promoting business opportunities and economic development in the region.
“We believe that such business cooperation and collaboration will create more job opportunities, exchange of technology innovation, and economic growth, thereby enhancing the economic vitality of Miri and even the entire Sarawak region,” he added.
Sarawak’s commitment to the green economy will be a significant focus of the forum. The region has demonstrated immense potential in green energy and sustainable development, positioning itself as a leader in Southeast Asia.
Yii stressed that the green economy is not just the direction for Sarawak’s future development but also an important engine for driving sustainable economic development globally.
He encouraged local businesses and entrepreneurs to participate in the exchange, viewing it as a valuable opportunity to engage with Singaporean counterparts and explore potential cooperation. “I hope everyone can seize this opportunity to contribute to the economic development of Miri and Sarawak as a whole,” he said.
The Miri City Council (MCC) has established a special task force to coordinate various aspects of the event, ensuring high-quality services for all attendees and the smooth conduct of the exchange.
The council, along with the MCCCI and its members, is committed to making the ‘Sarawak-Singapore Business Exchange’ a resounding success, injecting new vitality into the region’s economic development.
MCCCI chairman Ling Chiong Sing who was also present at the press conference said through this exchange, entrepreneurs from Miri can strengthen communication and connection between enterprises from both regions, seek for potential cooperation opportunities, and achieve complementary advantages and mutual benefits.
“The holding of this exchange event is a significant event for economic and trade cooperation between Miri and Singapore,” he said, adding that the networking forum helps create more job opportunities and investment from Singaporean enterprises in Miri.
