KUCHING: Swift action by the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) prevented fire from spreading to the SEDC Premix Sdn Bhd factory at Mile 7, Old Airport Road today.
According to reports by BOMBA, they received a call at 10.07 am regarding the incident and promptly dispatched a team from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations to the scene.
“Upon arrival at the location it was found that a premix plant outside the factory was 60 per cent burnt.
“Initial extinguishing action was taken by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) of SEDC Premix Sdn Bhd using four units of dry chemical fire extinguishers before the firefighters arrive at the scene.
“The firefighters took defensive action to extinguish the fire by deploying two hose streams of 400 feet with two nozzles, one foam making branch, and one foam drum, using water from the engine tank and water tanker until the fire was completely extinguished,” BOMBA said in a report.
After ensuring no more fire sources and the situation was safe, the fire department returned to the station.
The operation concluded at 12 noon with no injuries or fatalities involved while the cause and extent of the damage are still under investigation.
