SIBU: Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee has commended the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) for its swift action in addressing a significant accumulation of garbage in drains and along the roadside in Jalan Apollo Timur.
“We greatly appreciate the council’s swift response, as they promptly arranged for workers to clean up the drains and the garbage,” said the Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government in a Facebook post on Friday (Oct 20).
Tiang also urged the public to work together in maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings and collectively strive to make their neighborhood even more beautiful.
Earlier, on Oct 19, he expressed his disappointment that the drain in Jalan Apollo Timur was unusually dirty, with a large accumulation of garbage and even piles of trash next to the drain.
“This not only affects hygiene but also damages the aesthetics of the community,” he said.
In response, the Pelawan Service Centre contacted SMC and requested that a contractor be arranged to clean the drain and the garbage as soon as possible.
Tiang reminded the residents to cherish the environment and avoid littering in order to maintain the community’s cleanliness and beauty.
