KUCHING: A senior lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology’s Sarawak campus is among six individuals appointed as a new member of the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) effective Aug 1 to July 31, 2025.

Gregory Wee Lik Hoo received his appointment letter from Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil at a ceremony held here yesterday which was also attended by FINAS chairman Datuk Kamil Othman, deputy director-general (management) Rozita Waty Ridzuan and members of the corporation.

Wee teaches a wide range of disciplines including art, comics illustration, character design, animation, motion graphics and film. His interest lies in creative content development, animation production, training and the development of the industry.

He has an MA in Film (Northwestern University, Illinois, USA) and a BA in Business Computing (University of Winnipeg, Canada).

BERNAMA, quoting a FINAS statement yesterday, said others appointed were Saeful Fadhly Moktar, Aidah Ahmad Adzmi, Chacko George Vadaketh, Rozaidi Abdul Jamil and Yee I-Lan.

“FINAS, which is responsible for focusing on the economic empowerment and the quality of the creative industry, including the film sector, will continue to be committed to ensuring that the development of the local film industry continues to grow,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Rozaidi Abdul Jamil, better known as Zed Zaidi, said he would try to help FINAS, especially with regard to the welfare of the creative industry, and to “raise the dignity” of those involved in it.

“We will also develop data for the industry, and indirectly, it will help provide job opportunities to more industry players in Malaysia,” he said.
