Swinburne Sarawak to host Open Day statewide on Aug 3-4

KUCHING: School leavers are invited to attend the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus Open Day from Aug 3 to 4.

The event is open to all from 10am to 4pm on Saturday (Aug 3) in Kuching, Bintulu, and Sarikei.

“The Open Day in Kuching will be held at the university’s campus located along Jalan Simpang Tiga. While in Bintulu, Open Day will be held at NU Hotel and in Sarikei it is held at Coffee Code,” it said.

Aside from this, Swinburne Sarawak will also be holding its Open Day at Imperial Hotel, Miri and Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu on Sunday, on Sunday (Aug 4), with both events taking place from 11am to 4pm.

The Open Day events are especially aimed at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM), O-Level, A-Level and Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) school leavers seeking to further their studies.

“The Open Day events will provide an excellent avenue for visitors to discover all that the next-generation university offers, from globally-ranked courses to modern facilities, scholarships, Work Integrated Learning, flexible exchange and transfer options, a vibrant student experience and much more,” it said in a statement today.

Moreover, during the open day, prospectives students and parents can engage in personalised course counselling with the university’s education counsellors and academic experts.

“By understanding the wide range of programme in various fields of study are offered by the university, including business, computing, design, engineering, quantity surveying, science, arts, media and education, it may help the students and parents to make a well-informed decision,” it said.

As for scholarships and financial aid, it stated that students and parents will have the opportunity to explore the various scholarships, bursaries and financial aid options provided by the university at different levels of study, in addition to those offered by external providers.

“Students and parents can also tune into exclusive talks by Yayasan Sarawak on scholarships, study loans and financial aid.

“Yayasan Sarawak will also be present at the event to provide one-on-one consultations on scholarships and financial aid,” it said

Other than that, prospective students can also find out more about the English Enhancement
Program (EEP), a specially designed four-week program fully sponsored by Yayasan
Sarawak and available to all Sarawakian students who meet the entry requirements.

“With EEP, students can hone their English language proficiency while ensuring a
smooth transition into university life.

“Upon completing the EEP, students can continue to the foundation, diploma or degree program at Swinburne Sarawak and enrolled students can also enjoy free on-campus accommodation for the duration of the programme along with a one-off allowance of RM300,” it said.

Swinburne Sarawak noted that another key feature of the Open Day is the opportunity to interact with current students and participate in guided campus tours, giving visitors a glimpse into what life is like as a Swinburne Sarawak student.

“They will have the opportunity to discover the campus’ newly upgraded comprehensive infrastructure, including the Borneo Atrium, Student Hub, The Junction, Student Village and Food Hall which are aligned with Swinburne Sarawak’s commitment to enhancing the campus experience for students and providing a world-class teaching and learning environment,” it said.

Swinburne Sarawak will handle immediate applications at all its Open Day events and eligible students applying for admission will receive their Letter of Offer on the same day while those attending any off-campus Open Day will be given a Letter of Eligibility.

“To simplify the application process, prospective students should bring their Malaysian identification card or a certified copy of their passport, along with their academic transcripts and certificates (SPM, STPM, UEC, O Level, A-Level and so on,” it said.
