The MoU outlines the collaboration between the parties on the development of a smart parking application, SPark which works in tandem with the existing parking system operated by KCPS and the commercial implementation of SPark by ODE Marketplace and KCPS.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Assistant Minister of Local Government, Datu Dr. Pengguang Manggil, who represented the Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Sim Kui Hian, said the Swinburne-developed new technology, fully supported by the industry, was a genuine service to the public.
He said it brought together all the key elements such as research and education institution, industry players, the general public and the state government, in order to improve the quality of life for the communities.
“The Ministry of Local Government and Housing wants to see Kuching develop in a sustainable way and this new parking solution is an excellent step forward. It also serves as a model of how the various stakeholders in our city can work together for the future of the state.
“We hope that both will be the start of innovations for the next generation of Sarawakians,” said Pengguang during the signing ceremony between Swinburne, KCPS and ODE Marketplace for the Pilot Deployment of Parking Apps S-Park held at the Swinburne Sarawak campus yesterday.
Pengguang pointed out that the new app would help to make Kuching more livable, ease parking, improve operations for KCPS and help to raise revenue for important projects on behalf of the local residents.
“We urge Sarawak to learn from this model as it is being designed for the people of Kuching, and we hope that the people will make the most of this app when it becomes available to the public,” he added.
