KUCHING: Swinburne Sarawak Frisbee team, “Vipers”, strive to improve their performance following their stint at the Malaysia University Ultimate Championship (MUUC).
Coach Adriel Wong said that for most of the players, it was their first time participating in a large-scale tournament of a high calibre.
“Overall, as a team, they did their best.
“Despite challenges such as limited resources, lack of access to outdoor fields, and the difficulty of balancing student duties with training and assignments, they gave it their all,” he said.
He made these remarks to Sarawak Tribune when contacted yesterday.
The MUUC was held at the Tigre Arena, in Sungai Buloh from Oct 26 until Oct 27.
Wong, a frisbee enthusiast, pointed out that in Sarawak, there was only one outdoor tournament per year-the Sarawak Ultimate Open, organised by the Sarawak Flying Disc Association (SFDA).
Due to the imposed limitations, Wong explained that younger frisbee players here lacked the exposure and experience necessary to improve their gameplay.
He contrasted this to the situation in West Malaysia, where university teams there benefitted from greater resources and opportunities in gaining experience.
“With only over two months of training, I think there’s great potential for them to further develop in this sport.
“We are also trying to recruit more players, as many of our current players are ageing,” he added.
