PADAWAN: The Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) arrested two locals and seized syabu drugs worth RM1.05 million in an operation on Wednesday (Aug 28).
Acting upon gathered intelligence, the NCID team conducted a special operation at Sentosa Parade Mile 7, Jalan Kuching-Serian, and Taman Kitang One 5, Jalan Batu Kitang.
In his statement, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said that a 53-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were taken into custody during the raids.
“In the operation, the team seized 33kg of syabu, with an estimated value of RM1,056,000. The seized drugs can cater to about 165,000 users.
“Aside from that, a Proton Saga and a Toyota Camry, worth RM63,000 were confiscated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Three gold rings along with RM1,000 cash were also confiscated under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988,” he said.
Background checks found that the male suspect had prior records related to vehicle theft and extortion, while the female suspect had no prior records.
Preliminary urine tests indicated that both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Mancha added that the suspects, who were paid RM100 per day, obtained the drug supplies from the head of a syndicate in Kuching.
“The modus operandi involved converting a house into storage location for drugs, which were later delivered to buyers based on their boss’ instructions,” he said.
Both suspects were being remanded for six days until Sept 4 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
