KUCHING: A symbolic handover ceremony of the 47 Malaysians detained in Cambodia since Dec 11, was held at 5pm today, according to a statement from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit.
Foreign Ministry Sarawak regional office director, Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh, who is in Siem Reap at the moment, confirmed this to Bernama.
According to the statement, the gesture was performed by Cambodia Special Functions Senior Minister, Oknha Datuk Dr Othsman Hassan, and Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
It is understood that 40 Sarawakians, victims of a human trafficking syndicate who were imprisoned following a raid, are scheduled to touch down at Kuching International Airport tomorrow at 5pm. – Bernama
