MIRI: Federation of the Miri Division Chinese Associations Sarawak and Miri Police Headquarters will hold a symposium on “Cyber Fraud and Cyberbullying” on Nov 1.
The event will take place in the Eastwood Banquet Hall at 9 am and it is open to the public.
The federation in a statement issued yesterday said its president Datuk David Goh paid a courtesy call to Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu and handed over the invitation letter for the symposium to him.
Secretary general of Miri Division FCA Lee Yen Ling and technology information and research officer Councillor Leong Chin Lim also accompanied him.
The coming event is to enable the public to improve their ability to identify fraudulent syndicate methods.
“The elderly can effectively take precautions and acquire knowledge to educate the younger generation to be more vigilant and at the same time have a deep understanding of the danger and seriousness of participating in cyber fraud and cyberbullying.
“Information is flooded, and everyone has a handphone in hand.
Users can leave messages, share, and forward messages anytime anywhere. Once such information is used as evidence in violation of the law, the person committing the crime can be imprisoned, fined, or both, therefore, it should not be taken lightly,” it said.
Miri Division FCA provides a platform for attendees to have close contact with senior police officers and learn about online fraud and cyberbullying, so that the public should not try the law, prevent inappropriate remarks, personal attacks, communicate together and create a loving and harmonious on line world.
The symposium is open to 73 member associations of Miri Division FCA, as well as people from all walks of life in Miri to attend and listen. The deadline of registration is October 29.
Those who are interested can contact the chairman of the preparatory committee Councillor Leong Chin Lim at 0165781944, or call the general secretariat of Miri Division FCA at 085-413248 or phone number 011-55081815 for registration or consultation.
