KUCHING: Tabung Cinta, a yet to be registered charity body, through its “Kaseh Ramadan Box” brought cheer to needy Muslim families at Kpg Gita Lama, Jalan Bentara, Jalan Merdeka, Kpg Kudei Dungun and Kpg Tambirat in Petra Jaya near here last weekend (May 4 and 5) in connection with the fasting month of Ramadan. The charity programme was held in an effort to lighten the burden of needy families.
With assistance of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Technology College Sarawak (TCS) student volunteers the box aid containing basic necessities such as rice, sugar, salt, cooking oil, soy sauce, assorted biscuits and eggs was from public donations.
According to a representative of the Tabung Cinta, Lorraine Abang Bennett, public response to the charity programme was extraordinary with a total of RM25,000 raised from donations.
“We started the fund-raising drive in early April with a collection target of below RM10,000. However, with overwhelming response from the public we managed to collect nearly RM25,000 which was beyond our expectation,” Lorraine said when met by New Sarawak Tribune during the charity visit today.
“The immense support from the public has made this project a huge success and Tabung Cinta has become the trusted channel for the public to extend their help by donating while we assist them in delivering their donations to the needy,” she added.
With the success of the first charity project, the eight women who helped formed Tabung Cinta hoped to hold more outreach programmes and volunteering works to empower the community in future.
Lorraine also said that Tabung Cinta is expected to be registered as an official charity organisation after Aidilfitri in order for it to continue holding charity programmes in future.
