KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud called for more efforts to be made to ensure the continuity of the Lan Berambeh programme.
In an Instagram posting recently, he said the programme has been proven to bear much fruit over the years and has reach its objective to connect with fellow Sarawakians living outside Sarawak.
“When I was Chief Minister, one of the initiatives which we started then was to ensure that Sarawakians living abroad will be reached out through the Lan Berambeh programme.
“To me, it was through this programme that we can reach out to Anak Sarawak living abroad.
“Before the Lan Berambeh programme was initiated, we have tried to carry out various initiatives, activities and dialogues to ensure that their welfare, assistance and the latest information gathered from Sarawakians living outside Sarawak, whether in Malaysia or abroad,” the posting read.
Following the success of the programme, Taib said it has been adopted as one of the annual activities as part of the Sarawak government’s efforts to bring together the camaraderie of Anak Sarawak.
According to various media reports, the programme was first held in 2008, and started off as an Aidilfitri open house in Kuala Lumpur.
It was later known as Karnival Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak with participation and support from the Sarawak government, an annual meeting ground for Anak Sarawak.
This year, the programme will take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Oct 21).
Organised by the Sarawak Volunteers Association (Sarawak Volunteers) with the support of the Sarawak government, the four main components of the event are 60 Years Sarawak Independence Digital Exhibition, 60 Years Sarawak Independence Youth Dialogue, Town Hall with Premier of Sarawak, and ends with the Children of Sarawak Dinner, the highlight of the event.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will be officiating at the event.
