KUCHING: The late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s political acumen and contribution serves as a reference to current and aspiring lawmakers.
In stressing this, Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the former Head of State and father of modern Sarawak was the architect behind Sarawak’s progress and success.
“His great political endeavours will be a ‘priceless book of reference’ for us legislators and public administrators alike.
“Largely, and by leaps and bounds, we inherited what he shaped for us during his three decades as chief minister from 1981 to 2014.
“He had transformed the state development from an agricultural base landscape into a modern and thriving state as we witness today,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts attributed Sarawak’s achievements in manufacturing and industrial economy to Taib who initiated the industry during the latter’s tenure.
He also said Taib’s politics of development had a profound impact on the multi ethnic society in Sarawak, contributing to the racial harmony enjoyed by the people.
“His understanding and willingness to accommodate political rivalry and turn it into opportunities of consensus has led the state to a high degree of tolerance and hence our peace and harmony now.
“On the political front, I wish to record my sincere appreciation once again to Tun Taib for his endorsement for me becoming a candidate way back in 2006, and his unwavering support and guidance throughout my political journey until today.
“His passing is a great loss to us all throughout the state. Most of all we will miss his wisdom,” he said.
