KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) would like takaful operators in Malaysia to offer affordable takaful products suitable for the risk needs of gig economy workers.
Its chief executive officer Mohd Radzuan Mohamed said gig economy workers are exposed to dangers and risks such as accidents and loss of property.
“They comprise those who work in the delivery industry such as foodpanda, Grab Food, Lalamove and Shopee Food.
“They face risks all the time and are also viewed as a group affected by accidents and who are unable to provide for their families when they lose their source of income,” he told Bernama at an MTA-Etiqa Takaful Bhd event at the Etiqa Academy in Jalan Melaka.
About 400 gig economy workers were present at the event which saw the distribution of food packs as part of a sharing initiative among those working peak hours during the Ramadan month.
The programme was also part of MTA’s Ramadan Barokah series and part of the takaful industry’s corporate social responsibility activities.
Etiqa General Takaful Bhd chief executive officer Shahrul Azuan Mohamed and representatives from strategic partners comprising food and goods delivery companies also attended the event. – BERNAMA
