MUKAH: Members of the Mukah-Oya Area Fishermen Association (PNK) should take advantage of the many services that the association provides which could improve their socioeconomic wellbeing.
Its general manager Awang Mohaini Awang Chee said this includes the sale of subsidised diesel at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) jetty for deep sea fishing.
He added for coastal fishing, the sale of subsidised petrol was conducted through Shell and Petronas fuel stations for those who are eligible.
He said that the association also provided loans to fishermen with valid licence up to RM25,000 for small vessels and RM75,000 for deep sea fishing.
“A rebate of 15 percent will be offered to the borrower if he settles his loan early,” he said when speaking at the soft opening of the Village Commercial Centre (VCC) at Kampung Seri Tellian (Tellian Tengah) here recently.
Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo officiated at the event, which was also attended by Mukah-Oya PNK chairman Ali Hamid.
According to Awang Mohaini, the association also provided a special fishermen housing project to repair or build a new house.
He also mentioned the education fund for members’ children who are pursuing their education at institutions of higher learning, besides compassionate aid for members.
He said that the association was also involved in the sale of ice blocks, processed from its three-tonne machine.
Awang Mohaini also revealed that the association had submitted a working paper for the purchase of a new 10-tonne ice-making machine estimated to cost RM360,000 to LKIM, for onward submission to the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry for consideration.
Yussibnosh was impressed with the information disclosed, which according to him, was very useful while hoping that the association’s members would take advantage of.
