KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has confirmed that sepak takraw will be contested in the next three editions of Asian Games, from 2026 to 2034, according to the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF).
The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Nagoya, Japan while the 2030 edition in Doha, Qatar and 2034 edition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
ISTAF secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Kader in a statement today said this is a big testament for the sport of sepak takraw for spectators and entertainment.
Sepak takraw was first introduced in the 1990 edition in Beijing, China and will continue to be contested in the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, from Sept 23 until Oct 8.
Abdul Halim, who is also the Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) president, also congratulated Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Ahmad J Al-Sabah, who is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of Kuawait, on being elected as President of OCA for the 2023-2027 term.
“ISTAF and ASTAF will work closely under the leadership of Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Ahmad J Al-Sabah, President of OCA, to continue to support us to elevate sepak takraw internationally for the benefit of the youth in Asia particularly and around the world,” he added. – BERNAMA
