KUCHING: Friends of Sarawak Museum is inviting members of the public to a talk titled “Conflict in Sarawak’s Borderlands 1942-1945 and 1963-1966.”
The talk will be held at Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) on Sunday (May 12) at 2 pm.
The talk will be presented by army veteran Colonel (Rtd) Kim Hoskin and it is centred on the involvement of the inhabitants of the northeastern area of Sarawak (the tri-border area of Sarawak, Sabah and Indonesia) during the Japanese Occupation and the Confrontation conflicts.
“While the story of the Borneo Interior Force of 1945 can only be told indirectly, that of the Border Scouts and others involved in Confrontation can be related from personal experience,” Friends of Sarawak Museum said in a press release.
In the meantime, Hoskin who is a defence, security, and risk management consultant, served in the military for over 25 years in New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji, Hawaii and elsewhere in intelligence, planning, and simulation design.
He was transferred to the Border Scouts in Sarawak’s Fifth Division and later after joining the New Zealand Army in 1967, he was posted to Vietnam.
His last army post was as honorary commandant of the New Zealand Intelligence Corps.
He now lives in Ba’ Kelalan where he is building a home and writing. His memoir “In Plain View: Borneo to Vietnam and Thereafter” was published in New Zealand in 2020.
