BALI:  Sarawak will soon begin formal discussions with Indonesia as the proposed undersea interconnection project for electricity supply to Singapore will run through Indonesian waters.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this is in the positive spirit of Asean and with full respect for Indonesia’s sovereignty and interests.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave his blessings for our direct connection to Singapore which was agreed upon during the bilateral meeting between Malaysia and Singapore two days ago.

“’In the positive spirit of Asean and with full respect for Indonesia’s sovereignty and interests, we will soon commence formal discussions with Indonesia as the proposed undersea interconnection project will run through Indonesian waters,” he said.

He made these remarks in his speech at the opening of the 2023 World Hydropower Congress at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre here today.

For the record, Sarawak is venturing beyond the Borneo Power Grid as part of the regional Asean Power Grid.
