SIBU: An 85 feet tall Christmas tree, submitted for the Christmas Tree Decorating Competition 2017 organised by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), has become a new record height, at least in this town. The Chairman of the organising committee, Councillor Kapitan Connie Loh said last year, the tallest Christmas tree was at 55 feet.

“A total of 15 private companies are participating in the Christmas tree competition this year and all of them have to finish their tree decoration before being evaluated by the judges on Dec 10. “They have started decorating their Christmas trees with metal frames since Dec 4.

“This year, the Christmas trees were sponsored by SMC Chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King,” she said during a media interview yesterday morning. Connie hopes that people will come to Sibu City Square Phase 1 to see the beautiful Christmas trees that will be on display until Dec 31, in conjunction with this year’s Christmas and New Year celebration.
