SERIAN: Tangga Mawang won the the first edition of the 2022 YB John Ilus Cup (Women) football competition by defeating N21 Tebedu 2-1 in the final match.
This enabled the team to bring home the championship cup, round cup, medals, as well as a RM1,500 cash prize.
N21 Tebedu, who finished in second place, took home a trophy, medals, and RM800 in cash, while the teams from Riih Mawang and TBS23, who tied for third place, each received a trophy, medals, and RM400 in cash.
According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) today (Jan 1), the competition, which started on Dec 3, 2022, was carried out as a group league where 12 teams were divided into four groups.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus was quoted as saying that the N21 Tebedu team was an invited team while the rest of the participants were from around his constituency.
He made these remarks yesterday at Kampung Riih Daso, where Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada was also present for the tournament’s final game.
For the record, the tournament aims to attract the interest of women to get involved in football and provide a platform for them to compete with each other.
It is also a place to find new talents that can be taken to a higher level.
