BINTULU: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming took a proactive step in helping students from the B40 group by organising an eye examination programme and giving out free spectacles.
This programme is targeted at selected primary school students, in collaboration with a local spectacles shop, Woops! Signature Optical Centre, Bintulu District Community Welfare Association and Tanjong Batu State Assembly Service Centre.
A total of three schools have been identified to participate in this programme, where each school will involve 60 students.
SK Asyakirin was the first location to be visited, followed by SK Chung Hua No.1 on Tuesday and SJK Chung Hua No.2 on Wednesday.
“This morning alone, almost 100 students at SK Assyakirin underwent an eye examination.
“After the examination is completed, students with vision problems will be given free spectacles. This is a very meaningful initiative, especially for the community in my state constituency,” said Pang when met at SK Asyakirin.
He also expressed his concern for the plight of less able students, especially from B40 families, and saw this programme as an effort to ensure that they do not drop out of learning due to vision problems.
“The wellbeing of students is my priority, and we want to make sure these students get the support they need.
“We (Pusat Khidmat DUN Tanjong Batu) intend to make this programme an annual event and expand it to more schools in the future, with a special focus on helping students from the B40 group,” he added.
