KUCHING: A revised masterplan for the Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area (T-MEGA) is expected to be ready by the end of August this year.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said it is expected to be perused by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) before submission to the State Planning Authority (SPA) for approval at the end of next month.
“The approved and updated T-MEGA Masterplan will serve as a guide for a complementing development effort by various agencies within T-MEGA which resonates with the overall infrastructure development plan by Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) and the Sarawak government.
“Tanjung Manis plays an important role in becoming the gateway in developing the central region and to provide opportunities for identified sectors such as fisheries, agriculture, tourism and many more to be developed,” he said after officiating at the opening of a T-MEGA Masterplan review lab here today (July 6).
He added that even though the period to submit the masterplan is just round the corner, he was confident it could be realised because his team had identified the main needs that should be given priority.
“We will see how this T-MEGA masterplan lab will be integrated with the labs held in Mukah and Sarikei as an overall development plan for the whole central region,” he explained.
Starting today until Friday (July 6-8), the lab, organised by SPA with the assistance of STIDC and facilitated by HAPM Consultant Sdn Bhd, aims to have a comprehensive and inclusive engagement and syndication sessions with 39 stakeholder entities comprising 78 participants and relevant parties to come up with a revised T-MEGA Masterplan.
