KUCHING: The Sarawak government has decided to build a three-star hotel in Belawai to tap its tourism potential.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that in addition to the hotel, several other facilities, such as a golf course, will be developed to meet visitors’ needs or cater to golf enthusiasts.
He said these two projects will be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan, while continuing to preserve the natural environment of the surrounding areas.
“When I look at Tanjung Manis…. I told Datuk Len Talif Salleh (Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment) that this area can be further developed to attract more locals and tourists.
“Presently, people like to come to Tanjung Manis for fishing and when people come to visit, there must also be suitable accommodation for people to stay.
“Thus, we will build a three-star hotel in Belawai, and this will further boost the economic growth of the area,” he said when officiating at the Tanjung Manis Fishing Safari 2023 closing ceremony held in conjunction with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation’s (STIDC) Golden Jubilee anniversary in Tanjung Manis on today (Aug 13).
Abang Johari added that those who are not interested in fishing could then visit Belawai to partake in golfing activities.
“You know, Koreans love to play golf. They don’t mind playing even under the hot weather,” he said.
