Tarat community embraces modern farming in Sarawak Skills CSR event

SERIAN: Some 40 participants were involved in a Tarat community corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at Kampung Tarat Melawi.

The programme, organised by Sarawak Skills, aims to expose participants to modern farming, particularly hydroponic farming.

Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri said the programme also consisted of a seminar on improving farm products.

“Participants had the chance to undergo practical training and I hope that this programme can help them develop and improve their knowledge and skills in Technical, Vocational, Training and Education (TVET).

“Through this programme, there are seven hydroponic equipment, consisting of 40 pots and pumps that have been handed out to seven villages, represented by the respective village chief.

“The villages are Kampung Tarat Melawi, Kampung Tarat Sibala, Kampung Tarat Mawang, Kampung Bunga, Kampung Baru Mawang, Kampung Rayang and Kampung Igam.”

Hallman was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Tarat community CSR programme here on Wednesday (Sept 27).

“At Sarawak Skills, we are always ready to share information to the community relating to the latest development of technology by organising exhibitions, training, seminars just like we are doing right now.”

He hoped that participants will fully use the knowledge that they have gained so that they can be more competitive and improve their income.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn; and Deputy Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis were among the distinguished guests present at the closing ceremony.
