KUCHING: Majlis Islam Sarawak (MIS) allows tarawih prayers to be performed at mosques during Ramadan, said Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
“However, we will soon announce the specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Ramadan after the state Islamic Council’s meeting,” said the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office for Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU).
Last year, the state did not allow tarawih prayers to be held in mosques and suraus during Ramadan.
This was because the mosques and suraus in the state were closed to the public during the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
Dr Abdul Rahman revealed that Aidilfitri prayers for this year were also allowed and that the SOPs would be announced at a later date.
His announcement was in line with the recent statement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Perhaps, with Aidilfitri coming, maybe we can allow the Aidilfitri prayer, ‘takbir raya’ and Raya visits to nearby houses,” said the Prime Minister yesterday (Mar 27).
