KUCHING: Sarawak has reached the target of three million tourist arrivals to the state and is expected to continue to increase until the end of this year.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the target was reached in the first week of October.
Thus, he said he was confident that the number would surge to four million tourists by the end of December.
“I am confident with the events and activities we are organising until the new year’s eve celebration at the Kuching Waterfront with the official launching of the tallest flagpole.
“With the event we organise, I believe we may be able to reach four million by the end of December,” he said.
He said this during the Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Serian Pan Chern Liew Clan Association’s 33rd anniversary gala dinner at SJK Chung Hua No. 3 on Saturday night.
Abdul Karim is optimistic that if the state is able to reach four million tourist arrivals, then it will be a great success.
“However, the target of three million tourists achieved by my Ministry is sufficient,” he said.
